Ben Curtis
Ben works in external affairs for a charity that advocates for the maintenance and expansion of public transport provision in the UK. In last year’s local elections, he was elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor in Lambeth – achieving a 22% increase in the Liberal Democrat vote share in the ward – and now sits as part of the Party’s majority opposition group in the Town Hall. Ben’s seat in Clapham Common & Abbeville ward is in the heart of the new Clapham and Brixton Hill constituency.
Ben is a long-time Liberal Democrat campaigner, having been a member of the Party since 2016. He has both worked and volunteered in the Party, including as a campaign manager in the 2019 General Election. He is a die-hard football fan, following his beloved Norwich City across the UK, and a very average poker player.
Upon his selection, Ben said:
“I am honoured to have been selected by our membership in Clapham and Brixton Hill to represent the Liberal Democrats at the next General Election. Residents here are fatigued by a collapsing Conservative government nationally and fed up with their lacklustre Labour administration locally. We’re here to break the cycle and to make sure that liberal voices are heard at Westminster.
It is a privilege to serve as a councillor for Clapham Common & Abbeville ward and I will put the same energy into standing up for local people across the rest of this parliamentary constituency. I cannot wait to get going!”
Sarah Lewis, Chair of the Lambeth Liberal Democrats, said:
“Across our borough, local people have lost faith in the Conservative Party, and more and more are turning to the Liberal Democrats as a positive alternative to Labour.
Ben’s election to Lambeth Council last year is testament to his hard work as a champion for his local community in Clapham Common & Abbeville. I’m delighted that he can bring his hallmark optimism and commitment to this new role.
The Liberal Democrats are now the official opposition group on Lambeth Council, and at the last Westminster election we polled a strong second place in both former constituencies of Streatham and Vauxhall. As our Lib Dem candidate for this new parliamentary constituency, Ben will give local people the chance to elect a truly liberal voice and hard-working MP.”
