Streatham Wells controlled parking zone survey
Labour-run Lambeth Council is going ahead with a new Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in Streatham Wells, with bay markings, yellow lines and signage all currently being installed.
This is despite a consultation exercise that resulted in 84% of households opposing the scheme, and only 13% being in favour. 2% were neutral.
However, the Council failed to publish these figures when reporting back to residents.
Instead, Lambeth just stated that they would be proceeding with the CPZ, and that it would come into force on Monday 31st March, with hours of operation of 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
In the consultation on the Wells CPZ, Lambeth only offered two alternative times of operation: six hours 10am-4pm or an even longer ten hours 8.30am to 6.30pm.
Yet almost ALL the rest of Streatham will have 2-hour zones – including the majority of St Leonard’s ward, all of Streatham Hill and Streatham Vale. But Streatham Wells has been singled out.
The longer the hours, the greater the revenue for the Council in fines. Lambeth already raises more from parking than any other London Borough - £52.4m in the last year!
In addition, the plans mean:
Overall parking space for vehicles reduced by 25%
Permits for your visitors to park will cost £11 per day and for tradespeople such as plumbers, electricians and builders it will be £30 a day
Residents with cars will pay between £200 and £580 per year for parking permits – except for those with electric vehicles, who will pay at least £128.
