Save Lambeth Ticket Offices
Local Lib Dems are campaigning to save Lambeth’s train station ticket offices. Discussions between the Department for Transport and the Rail Delivery Group mean that the following ticket offices have been proposed for closure in Lambeth: Brixton, Gipsy Hill, London Waterloo, Loughborough Junction, Streatham Common, Streatham Hill, Streatham Station, Tulse Hill, Vauxhall, West Norwood. 1 in 8 rail tickets were sold at ticket offices last year, at a time when many of the most vulnerable were not even travelling due to the ongoing impact of Covid. The closure of ticket offices will disproportionately affect elderly, disabled, and vulnerable residents. Ticket offices are a lifeline for many passengers. Not all residents are able to use station ticket machines or have the means to book a ticket in advance or pay other than in cash. The arrangements for ticket office opening hours are the only statutory regulation for train station staffing. Once ticket offices are gone, there will be no legal requirement for train operators to provide any staff at train stations. Show the Conservative Government and railway bosses that they should put passengers over profit by signing our petition today: Save Lambeth’s Ticket Offices We, the undersigned, call on the Rail Delivery Group and the Department for Transport to stop plans to close ticket offices in Lambeth’s railway stations and to protect the vital public service that they provide.
