Reopen the Hopton Road station entrance.
We, the undersigned, urge Southern Rail to reconsider and promptly reverse the closure of the Hopton Road station entrance. The closure has resulted in various pressing issues that negatively impact our community: This entrance was initially opened to provide step-free access. The opening of the entrance substantially increased footfall in the vicinity, deterring anti-social behaviour such as street drinking. The suggested alternative route via Streatham Station involves crossing an extremely busy road and navigating crowded staircases, posing unnecessary danger, especially during peak hours. Arguments about fare evasion are weak. The majority of passengers travel through a gated station, and gateless exits exist in other stations without issues of the same nature. We demand the immediate reinstatement of the Hopton Road station entrance as a permanent and accessible entry point, ensuring the safety and convenience of local residents. We urge Southern Rail to prioritize the well-being and safety of the community by reconsidering this decision.
